I had never watched an 80's Mann film and this being his first theatrical feature really shows you that he always knew what he was looking for. So intense in so many moments and with a thief so cool and badass at once, this movie was superbly crafted on every lvl. This is a classic of the genre. Lacking only his mirror antagonist/protagonist theme, this is otherwise Mann fully formed, somehow apart from both the 80's and the 70's.The hard boiled dialogue and characterizations mesh perfectly, and the end feels like something out of a myth.
